🎲 Nottingham Gets Its Own Monopoly Board – Featuring Local Icons

Nottingham is officially joining the Monopoly family! The city was selected from a shortlist of ten cities from around the world – including Rio de Janeiro and San Francisco – to receive a custom board to celebrate Monopoly’s 90th birthday celebrations this year. Expect to see Nottingham Castle, the Robin Hood statue, and plenty of other local favourites on the board when it launches later this year.

🎤 Sleaford Mods’ Jason Williamson Volunteers at Local Homeless Charity

The volunteering work of Jason Williamson, frontman of Sleaford Mods, has recently been highlighted after he was spotted online working at The Friary, West Bridgford. It turns out Jason has been working at the organisation for a number of years, which is a homelessness support charity providing shelter, food and facilities to vulnerable people in Nottingham. 💷 Six Nottinghamshire Towns Awarded £20 Million Each for Regeneration

Great news for residents of Carlton, Clifton, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Mansfield, Newark, and Worksop - big investment is on the way! As part of the government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods project, each town is set to receive £20 million in funding, whilst Neighbourhood Boards consisting of residents, businesses and campaigners will be formed to determine how to spend the funds.

🚗 Gedling Country Park Lowers Parking Fees After Public Concerns

Following concerns from residents in response the proposed annual parking price of £200, we were pleased to hear Gedling Borough Council have now announced they will be reducing the cost by more than 50% to £85. The £2 daily charge will stay the same as planned, which will hopefully mean visiting the park remains affordable for everyone.

🧪 Nottingham Chemist Wins Prestigious Award for Groundbreaking Research

University of Nottingham scientist Professor Liam Ball has been named a Blavatnik Awards Laureate, recognizing him as one of the UK’s top young scientists. Chosen from a list of 9 shortlisted scientists, Liam’s research into greener, safer chemical processes has earned him a £100,000 prize to continue his work. Congrats Liam!

🌐 Nottingham set to Host First 'Tech for Good' Festival to Drive Positive Change

Nottingham is set to host its inaugural 'Tech for Good' Festival, focusing on how technology can tackle global challenges, promote sustainability, and benefit society. Over four days, industry thought leaders, innovative academics, and the public will gather for talks, workshops and panels in various venues across Nottingham. Themes will include data security, digital futures, diversity, ethical outcomes, environmental sustainability, and responsible AI. 🎉 Hucknall Market Plans 150th Anniversary Celebration

Hucknall Market is gearing up for a “super sized” market on 26th April to celebrate its 150th anniversary. The first Hucknall Market was held on 23 April 1875 when Queen Victoria was on the throne with the Market still going strong to this day. The festivities will include a variety of stalls, entertainment, and activities that reflect the Market’s longstanding role as a local gathering spot.

Get yourself down to Old Market Square to celebrate Nottingham’s independent retailers and creatives! From Friday 28th to Sunday 30th March the popular Ay Up Market is making a comeback, promising an expanded array of local vendors. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and enjoy a diverse selection of food, crafts, and unique products that showcase Nottingham’s creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.

🍻 Nottinghamshire Wetherspoon Pubs Host 12-Day Beer Festival

Beer enthusiasts, rejoice! Wetherspoon pubs across Nottinghamshire are currently running a 12-day beer festival with beers priced at £199 - £2.15 a pint. Featuring a selection of beers with a variety of flavours and styles, the festival ends next Sunday the 16th so don’t miss out!

✂️ Warren’s Barber Shop Celebrates 30 Years with Community Event

Warren's Barber Shop in West Bridgford is marking its 30th anniversary with a community celebration on Saturday, March 29th. The event will feature a tombola, children's games, live entertainment from Gizmo’s Labs and Magical Maths, and a performance by the Plumtree School Choir. The festivities begin at 10 am at the Gordon Road location, reflecting the shop's longstanding commitment to community engagement and support for local causes.

Following the closure of Lime Green Vegan Shop, it seems work has begun on a brand-new Turkish restaurant in Nottingham on the same site near Sneinton Market. No official opening date has yet been set, but we’ll keep you posted as things develop!

New Mapperley Café Promises Good Food at Good Prices

Mapperley’s new independent café Snap is all about “good honest food at reasonable prices”- and locals are already intrigued. Opening in the former site of Kalimera on Plains Road, the café serves up breakfasts, lunch bites, and homemade cakes, all in a cosy, welcoming space. The owners are keeping things simple, focusing on fresh ingredients and community spirit.

Award-Winning No. Twelve to Relaunch with a Fresh Focus

Masterchef: The Professionals contestant Richie Stainsby has announced his restaurant No. Twelve will be closing at the end of May. After years of serving creative plant-based fine dining, the owners are pivoting to a brand-new concept. Newly opened on King Street, Afrikana is serving up African-inspired dishes with a modern twist. Pink Beer Celebrates Women in Brewing

To celebrate women in the brewing industry, female brewing scientists from the University of Nottingham have collaborated with Blue Monkey Brewery and Murphy and Son to produce the new ‘Viva La Frida’ beer with a striking pink colour! Launched on March 8th (International Women’s Day), £1 from every sale of Viva La Frida cans will be donated to Juno Women's Aid, the largest domestic abuse organisation in Nottingham.
